WHAT IS UTI?

Cystitis is a common urinary tract infection (UTI) that usually occurs when bacteria enter the opening of the urethra and multiply.

Normal urine contains no bacteria. Sometimes, however, bacteria from outside the body get into the urinary tract, and cause infection and inflammation. This is a UTI. Cystitis, a bladder infection, is the most common type of urinary tract infection.

A bladder infection can be painful and annoying, and it can become a serious health problem if the infection spreads to your kidneys.

FAQ

What’s the best way to treat a UTI?

Antibiotics are the most effective treatment method and work by killing the bacteria that is causing the infection. And the sooner you start taking them, the sooner you’ll start feeling better. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water or other fluids.

How soon should I get a UTI treated?

As soon as you notice symptoms (see common UTI symptoms above). If you start feeling pain in your back or side or develop a fever, it may be a sign of a more serious infection in your kidneys.

Will a UTI go away on its own without antibiotics?

Because a UTI is an infection caused by bacteria, you’ll likely need an antibiotic to clear it up. Leaving a UTI untreated can result in a more serious infection that spreads to your kidneys. Start an online visit for your UTI today and start antibiotics sooner, if prescribed.

Do I need to go to a doctor’s office to get antibiotics for a UTI?

No, with Rapid UTI Treatment by Steinberg Urology you can get a professional advise online from the comfort of home and start antibiotics sooner (if prescribed).

Urine samples are only recommended if there is a suspicion of a more serious kidney infection.

If the doctor feels you have a more serious condition which requires an in-person examination, they will advise you to visit a clinic instead.

Is there any way to prevent a UTI?

You can take these steps to reduce your risk of urinary tract infections:

  • Drink plenty of liquids (approximately 2 L / day), especially water. Drinking water helps dilute your urine and ensures that you’ll urinate more frequently — allowing bacteria to be flushed from your urinary tract before an infection can begin.
  • Drink cranberry juice or try cranberry extracts. Although studies are not conclusive that cranberry juice prevents UTIs, it is likely not harmful.
  • Wipe from front to back. Doing so after urinating and after a bowel movement helps prevent bacteria in the anal region from spreading to the vagina and urethra.
  • Empty your bladder soon after intercourse. Also, drink a full glass of water to help flush bacteria.
  • Avoid potentially irritating feminine products. Using deodorant sprays or other feminine products, such as douches and powders, in the genital area can irritate the urethra.
  • Change your birth control method. Diaphragms, or unlubricated or spermicide-treated condoms, can all contribute to bacterial growth.

Can I get a prescription?

Yes, our physicians can prescribe medications online after your consultation. Once the prescription is sent, you can pick it up from your pharmacy.

What will my online UTI consultation be like?

Appointments usually take between five to ten minutes depending on the individual need. Our doctors will get a description of your symptoms. This will allow them to determine the best course of treatment. If necessary, they may recommend a follow-up appointment or a visit to a physical clinic at additional fee.

How do I get a prescription? Will my pharmacy accept it?

Steinberg Urology’s prescriptions are legitimate and are accepted by pharmacies. You can have your prescription sent to a pharmacy of your choice for pick-up.

How soon can I get my prescription?

We can usually send prescriptions to the pharmacy within 2 hours from your inquire and you can start get treated the same day.
